On their third single ‘Ciggies’, Dr Mann begin to push their psych country sound into a more dreamier, more indie kind of direction. The outfit do a stellar job of melding sounds of the 60s and 70s with more contemporary and modern elements, making for something that feels both familiar and distinctive, putting their own unique twist on classic psychedelic country sounds.

On ‘Ciggies’, the distinctive flavour of the outfit and their sound feels as pronounced and cutting edge as ever, with a swirling, dreamy psychedelic sheen that almost sees you swept away in a sea of haze and clouds. There is a jangly kind of twang to the sound, and it features vocals from front man Danny and also some sweet vocals with a French accent from Ines who plays synth in the band. There are so many elements to the sound that feel familiar, but they are packaged and put together in a way that feels unlike you’ve ever heard them, making for something that feels both unsettling, like you’ve felt it before but can’t quite put your finger on why. The end result is a wonderfully transfixing sound that is steeped in laid-back, dreamy vibes and thoughtful little sonic nuances.
