Smashing you from the get go with engaging, driving riffs and a huge sense of energy and fun, the fifth single from Electric Circus is exactly what fans of the fledgling outfit will be hoping to hear, continuing to showcase the gritty alternative rock flair that the band do so well.
‘My Illusion’ leans into the party vibe with lyrics surrounding themes like sex, partying and the highs and lows of dating, making for a track that feels like their most accomplished and exciting work to date. The sheer energy of the track and the raucous mix of 80s rock and more modern sounds makes for a track with swathes of charm and a fresh feel. Throw in some slick post-production and a Tom Morello-esque guitar performance, it all comes together to make a track that feels stacked full of an inescapably infectious nature and appeal throughout.
“The brief for this song was essentially ‘Coyote Ugly’.” The band say of the track. “We wanted to create something a little bit dirty, rough and out-law-ish. The story through the lyrics is essentially about the cat and mouse of dating, being misled, not knowing where you stand with someone and sometimes the power struggle that short term, fiery encounters can have. It’s also about just being out there and having a good time which kind of echoes the idea of fleeting moments from AFAS [‘All for a Stranger’], I guess that’s part of our ethos really, just enjoyment in everything.”
