Quickly growing into one of our favourite artists of 2024 thanks to her charismatic charm and expansive, forward-thinking sound, acclaimed singer, songwriter, and producer Sarah Carton, better known under her moniker Girl Next Door, has continued to defy our lofty expectations to surprise us with her second release of the year.

The artist’s new single ‘If Dance Floors Were Silent’ is a moody and atmospheric ode to London’s club scene and the artist’s search for a sense of kinship and connection amongst the hazy nights and crowded venues. There is a more subdued and pensive tone to the artist’s sound on the track that really brings out this emotional struggle and makes it feel authentic and raw, and this makes for a stirring and engrossing release that shimmers and ruminates beneath its distinctive, synthy exterior.

“I wrote ‘If Dance Floors Were Silent’ when I first moved to London. I was going out a lot and fell in love with London’s club scene and nightlife. Growing up in a small town, it was a really dramatic lifestyle change for me and even though I loved London I also found it really lonely. The track’s about moving to a big city when you’re young and trying to navigate it, feeling isolated and a craving for connection that’s only being satisfied by the nightlife.”
