With the release of their new EP More Heart Than Sense Pt. 1, London-based duo Gold Spectacles have continued to showcase the staying power of their seamlessly creative and emotionally charged brand of indie pop. The lead single from the album is ‘Man or Machine’, a track that closes out the EP in fittingly memorable style and is packed full of interesting and captivating moments.

The track celebrates the people that serve as the backbone of families and communities, the people that keep it together and rally around everyone else and act as a rock when times are tough. The upbeat and colourful nature of their sound juxtaposes a narrative of a mother who is keeping things ticking and making sure that everything gets done and things stay afloat while a family go through a tragedy, an unsung hero that is more than happy to maintain standards and carry the burden of all of those around her. Their fun sound and this effortlessly memorable narrative stick with you for long after your listen, and continue to highlight just how special Gold Spectacles are.

“This song has had many rewrites over the years.” The duo say of the track. “We absolutely loved the melody and ideas for production and knew that subject would come along at the right time. We changed the vocals and switched around multiple times until the lyric came after chatting about a person that is very close to our hearts and how gritty they are. They have this deeply caring nature and desire to make sure everyone is OK even down to organising the small details of others lives, while actually being quite stoic and unemotional about what they themselves have been through. These types of people seem to get all they need to feel fulfilled by serving others. I guess we all need to be a bit more like that sometimes. We came to the conclusion that some people just love to make other people feel like they’ve been wrapped up in a blanket.”
