A thoughtful new alternative rock project that have established a heartfelt and resonating sound that touches upon themes like life, love and reflection across their initial releases, Hand Gestures look set to establish the full scope and appeal of their sound with the release of their upcoming self-titled debut LP at the end of the month, and their new third single ‘Justin’s Funeral’, might just be the most reflective and compelling on the whole release.

The track is a moving exploration of frontman Brian Russ’s lifelong relationship with music, the moments along the way that have shaped his perceptions and ideas and the loss and learning that has occurred along the way. There is a real sincerity and authenticity that bleeds through the sound, aided by its stripped-back and melancholy feel and the DIY aesthetic that gives it this personal and intimate touch, making for a listening experience that feels steeped in this earnest, unfiltered honesty that lingers with you for long after your listen.

“I wanted to make something that spoke to life in your early 40s.” Brian says of the track and album as a whole. “That looked back, but also looked forward. Songs that could unlock universal feelings within – longing, love, loss – feelings we’ve all been through, while vividly reflecting on memories I haven’t thought about for years. Life as a teenager. Trying to figure things out. Coming to identify as an artist.”
