Wrapped in warm pop appeal and the artist’s affable personality and vocals, ‘Headache’ continues to establish emerging British-Arabic artist Hemes as a one of the UK’s hidden gems.

There is a depth to the sound however, and its catchy and melodic nature conceals a narrative about anxiety and ill mental health, with the titular headaches serving as a manifested form of these issues. The gravity of the sound can do nothing to subdue its lasting, fun appeal though, and it creates a thoughtful duality that allows you to enjoy the track on two different levels.

Headache follows the continuous theme of the EP into the mind of an overthinker, the lyrics describe how sometimes having an episode of overthinking and anxiety can sometimes feel like a headache that lasts forever, speaking about the track Hemes says “I wanted to write a song that describes how anxiety can feel sometimes, especially when it doesn’t go away”, speaking more about the track Hemes continues “I wanted the lyrics to really capture the lower moments, but i wanted the track itself to feel bubbly and opposite to the lyrics to really encapsulate the chaos that sometimes comes with being in your own head”
