The track is the latest in a string of excellent singles from the Trinidadian-born artist
Her distinctively Caribbean take on modern R&B and immersive narratives have made rising artist Janiq into something of a must-see talent since her emergence back in 2022, with a stellar collection of tracks that showcase her unique appeal and charm.
The Trinidadian-born artist’s latest single ‘Dior’ is the latest track to highlight this appeal, delving into a toxic relationship that the artist had with an engrossing and cutting edge sense of composure that feels intoxicating throughout. The slickness and charm of the instrumental, paired with the artist’s enticing vocals and lyrics makes for an effortlessly compelling track throughout, continuing to single out everything that makes Janiq feel vibrant and special in the lead up to the release of her upcoming new EP.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Dior’, Janiq shares, “With my ex, I had a crazy romantic type of fairytale love, like Romeo and Juliet. I was whisked up in a whirlwind of emotions that make you do dumb things. Long story short, we broke up; he was toxic and tried to convert me to a lifestyle where material riches weren’t a thing… blocked and deleted. Shakespeare called it a tragedy for a reason. I wrote this song thinking, I love ‘love’, but I’m a proud material girl, sorry not sorry. Remove ‘struggle love’ from the itinerary, please and thank you.”
