The track follows the release of the artist’s encouraging recent debut single ‘something new’
A track that offers a great blend of modern alternative pop flair with a timeless, Christmasy allure, latest Kaia Fincher single ‘slowburn’ is a track that sees the artist looking to leave her own imprint on the holiday single, eschewing the more traditional family dynamics that are usually explored on such tracks and instead looking for something more personal and real.
This makes for a track that has a sense of tension that undercuts its intricate instrumentation and makes for something that feels altogether more atmospheric and interesting. There is a confessional and almost hushed nature to the track as it progresses, as it explores themes like identity and sexuality and the harsh, unfair realities that some people are unfortunately met with as they spend times with their families in search of comfort and acceptance.
“We’re ending 2025, and somehow, many countries are passing laws that target LGBTQ+ people. I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to come home. Not every queer person gets to show up as their full self. Not every parent wants to accept a version of their child that doesn’t fit their expectations. And not every Christmas offers a place of comfort. The world can be loud, cruel, and confusing — but love within a family should never be conditional.” Kaia says of the track.
“I wanted to write something gentle, warm, and honest. A song that tells queer listeners: you deserve to be safe, to be seen, and to be loved. Every queer person should be able to walk through the front door without shrinking, apologising, or hiding who they are. And I will always stand for that — through my music, my voice, and the stories I choose to tell.”
