The track is the latest single from the artist’s lauded debut album Sweetmouth
Championed for a sound that is packed full of both captivating pop moments and heartfelt emotional artistry, Los Angeles queer pop artist KENTON is somebody cemented his status as one of pop’s most exciting rising voices with the release of his CLOUT-lauded debut album Sweetmouth, and his new single ‘Without You’ finds it at its most emotional and poignant moment.
The track explores the artist’s complex relationship with his father, and the way that their differences and conflicts seem less relevant as his health declines. One of the themes of the album as a whole surrounds the artist’s struggles of being LGBT in a less than supportive family and the pain it has caused him, and this track sees the artist combatting all of those feelings, challenges and regrets in cathartic and powerful fashion.
“One of the most universal emotions we humans experience is grief.” KENTON says. “Whether it’s a partner, a parent, or a pet, our grief is a reflection of the love we share. I wrote this song for my father, who, as his health declines, seems more and more like a child to me. All the misgivings, misunderstandings–they don’t matter in these last moments, fading fast like sand through my fingers. All I really want to remember is the love.”
