The artist’s unearthed take on the classic track hints at what could have been had things worked out differently
Uncovering a lost part of country music history, LaCosta Tucker has released her version of ‘It Matters to Me’, a track that was released by Faith Hill back in 1995 but was actually recorded previously to this by LaCosta according to the artist but never released.
The heartfelt balladry of the track and the immersive, stirring nature of the narrative feels similarly all-encompassing and captivating in LaCosta’s hands, with her commanding yet sweet vocal performance doing a great job of articulating the stakes while still having a tenderness to it that feels charming and real. This lost version of the track comes alongside something of a resurgence from LaCosta, and continues to highlight the artist’s innate knack for crafting country releases that can stand the test of time.
“I was driving down I-65 in Nashville listening to the radio when I recognized the intro immediately. It was ‘It Matters to Me’—my song—but the voice was Faith Hill’s.” LaCosta says. “Tears streamed down my face. I was heartbroken, but also happy knowing I had chosen a great song that became a huge success for a beautiful young artist. I’m so happy the world will finally get to hear my version.”
