The track follows her 2021 re-emergence with ‘Over You’.
Portland-based singer-songwriter Libby Thompson has been through something of a journey to get to where we are now. Having released her debut EP HELP back in 2015 with her younger brother Ben on production duties, the pair went on to form the electronic-pop duo EMRLD before eventually pursing their own solo projects, bringing us to where we are now. Libby reintroduced herself as an artist with her 2021 single ‘Over You’, and has now followed that up with her latest release ‘What Did This Love Cost?’.
The track is a powerful showcase of what the artist has to offer, from its thoughtful, immersive soundscape and style to her powerful, all-encompassing vocals. ‘What Did This Love Cost?’ is a track that captures you early on and never lets go, packed full of personality and and an effortless, soft kind of power. The track truly feels like an artist, refreshed and refocused, creating her best work and really coming into her own, and her debut four track EP just around the corner, this could be a really exciting time for the artist.
“I really wanted to write a song about the struggles of navigating a healthy relationship after coming out of a toxic one.” Libby says of the track. “It’s so hard to go back into dating again, learning to trust someone after having your heart broken. I’d just ended a six-year relationship and was like, ‘Fuck, is this my last chance? If I don’t find love now will I ever?” There was so much self doubt in that moment.”
