A track with a cinematic sense of scope and a flair for the dramatic and atmospheric, Lola Wild‘s latest single ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ is an unconventional yet instantly enticing new release that looks to craft a tale that mirrors the themes and romance of the original story of its titular characters.
The result is a track that unfolds like a Spaghetti Western all of its own, with these moody, enchanting textures and a resolute vocal performance from Lola that perfectly captures this flirtacious, absorbing feel that the track is centred around. There are some really vintage and timeless aspects to this sound, and its slow-burning, intoxicating allure really allows every bit of passion and intensity to ooze out of the sound and have a really potent effect, bringing a self-described “strange little poem” that the artist wrote a decade earlier to life in compelling fashion.
“I was completely captivated by Arthur Penn’s 1967 Bonnie and Clyde; It became one of those films I’d return to again and again.” Lola says. “I loved how romantic and doomed it felt, like two people running towards something they could never outrun. When I wrote ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, I wasn’t interested in recreating the film.”
“I wanted to imagine my own psychedelic version of it. I loved the idea of marrying the relentless heartbeat of Motown drums with Spaghetti Western guitars and dreamlike production to create something that felt nostalgic but slightly surreal. I also wanted to push the story further into Romeo and Juliet territory, where love becomes both the escape and the downfall.”
