Ahead of the release of their upcoming debut album, Is It Too Late To Freak Out?, set for release later this year, indie favourites Low Girl have released the third taster for the album in the form of ‘Overgrown’, a thoughtful and immersive new release that explores themes like personal growth and the idea that maybe you’ve had enough of character building, difficult times.

This is a novel idea for something to write a song about and something that feels instantly relatable and resonating as a listener. The catchy and laid-back nature of the instrumentation and the track’s earworm of a chorus certainly don’t hurt, making for a track that is easy to lose yourself within either due to the engrossing melodies or the affable, authentic-feeling lyrics that carry a relatable weight with them thanks to how conversational and alluring singer Sarah’s vocals feel. The track is a great third showcase of the album, and hopefully a taster of what is to come from the rest of the tracks we haven’t heard yet.

Detailing their single, enigmatic frontwoman Sarah Cosgrove explained: “Personal growth is a never-ending process for some, and it often comes about as a result of turbulent times. I wanted to stubbornly play with the idea that, actually, I felt I’d grown enough. I reflect on this with ‘I wish I could walk at night time’, both referencing what a kid who thinks they’re ‘all grown up’ might say, and the patronising aspects of femininity. All in all, there’s an optimistic feeling of having made it out the other side of something and playfully basking in that relief”
