The new single has a fuzzy and chaotic dark-pop aesthetic to it that does a great job of setting the scene for a track that is laced full of paranoia, doubt and anxiety. The way that it captures such intense feelings and the sensation of spiralling and things slipping away from you makes for a really frenetic and captivating listening experience, like you’re pulled into her world by how visceral and claustrophobic the track feels. There are some really melodic and ambitious touches to the track that meld seamlessly with the more harrowing ones to make for a wonderfully compelling new release, and one that sees Lucy’s stock continue to rise as a modern artist with her own unique style.
“Lines sonically captures the chaotic spiral of someone who just witnessed their ex with someone new for the first time.” Lucy says. “That gnawing need to tell the next person about them, the intrusive thoughts that control us in the moment, the impulsive actions we take that we immediately regret the next day. It’s paranoia while also being neurotic, until we’re forced to face the question: who have I become?”
