‘New Woman’ is the unapologetic and empowering new single from lùisa

German indie pop artist and multi-instrumentalist lùisa is at her bold and impassioned best on new woman. Pulled from her upcoming third album of the same name, the track feels stirring from its offset, tackling issues and umbrages that the artist has with sexism in the music industry.

Musically the track feels both familiar yet refreshingly new and exciting. Warm pop sensibilities are met with an almost 80s layer of sheen, as delicately layered guitars and a swarming baseline add a sense of pomp and circumstance to a track already swimming in depth. ‘New Woman’ feels like a carefully measured statement, never feeling hammy or forced, but simply showcasing lùisa’s immense merit and prestige as a woman on her own terms, and hopefully it will inspire others to do the same.

The feminist movements of the last few years have totally encouraged me to talk about these things,” says lùisa. “It’s about the technician who can’t imagine me programming my own loops. Or about all the people who ask me if I don’t want to do something ‘sensible’ someday. Male musicians never get asked that kind of thing.”
