Faced with increasingly fraught and divided times, latest Maicín single ‘Fear the War’ is a track that does a great job of articulating the uneasy way that it feels seeing the conflict and struggle that is going on around the world from the outside, with the dissonance that it creates when compared to the relative safety of many of our lives in contrast.

The band’s stripped-back, folky approach does a great job of heightening the emotion in the vocals and lyrics, with the track operating somewhere in a space between the despair that we have for the plight and situations that others find themselves in and the violently contrasting fortunes that many others have for no reason other than luck. It offers a really nuanced perspective and one that many would be more than happy to not think about or address, and makes for a compelling listen that is packed full of earnesty and charm throughout.

“That night Matt was out watching an Everton match and felt a creeping doom.” Maicín say of the new release. “Why should there be people just like him dying for reasons beyond their control while he gets to be safe watching a match he doesn’t care about drinking overpriced beer.”
