Marcus Man‘s Spotify bio describes him as a “northern melt with average tunes”, and while the jury is out on the first part of that statement, we can attest that the tunes are anything but average. On his engaging and thoroughly clever new single ‘Relegated’, the artist draws parallels between the ups and (unfortunately in this case) downs of the relationships we have with football teams and our significant others.

There are a tonne of witty football-related lines throughout the track that are delivered with the artist’s charming, distinctive flair, showcasing more of the personality-driven charismatic nature of his sound that has earned him such acclaim. ‘Relegated’ is a track that has more than its fair share of sombre moments, providing a relatable tale of being hard on your luck and just searching desperately for that next win, ultimately hoping that the person you hold dear will stand by you regardless (like I did when Aston Villa got relegated 2015-16). Marcus boasts a really authentic feeling acoustic indie sound, and his lyrical imagery and considered, unique songwriting style always makes for tracks that feel welcoming and almost conversational.

Marcus Man explains the track further “I found it easier to relate how I felt, to the idea of my team getting “relegated”- hence the title. I’m a West Ham fan & ironically this season really isn’t looking too good…I genuinely think this might be the first love song to bring those two concepts together & I think it works quite well- at least in my head anyway!”
