Having recently taken a step back from her music, Martha Hill has returned and in excellent and powerful fashion, utilising her first single back ‘Football’ to re-emerge as a memorable presence in modern music, and use her platform to take a stand against the expectations placed on musicians, especially women, to package and sell themselves to the industry and fans as products.
The new single is packed full of thoughtful lyrics and an engrossing, raw-edged soundscape, with the artist going back to her DIY roots having ditched her label and opting to record and produce everything herself, and it is in this environment that Martha thrives. This more organic approach makes her message hit that much harder, and her style pack so much more emotional resonance and power, especially surrounding a subject as close to the artist’s heart as this one.
“Writing, producing, and performing all the different aspects of this felt right.” Martha says of the new track. “It felt like reclaiming my musical identity.”
