Deploying a potent pop-punk drumbeat and whirring synths, ‘Block Your Number’ captures a relentlessly youthful energy that side-steps the often more contemplative tone of Latour’s previous work. Once again evoking thoughts of Lorde, the 20-year-old uses her knack for an anecdotal lyric to capture an affable tone that is immediately relatable.
“Modern love is so damn romantic,” remarks Latour with an eye roll that practically leaps through the sound waves; despite being so connected across various mediums, love – in many ways – has become anything but.
