Nashville based indie outfit Mel Bryant & The Mercy Makers have done a really great job of establishing themselves as a fierce and exciting force in modern music, anchored by the personality and biting wit of singer and songwriter Mel Bryant.
Their latest single ‘God Forsaken’ delves into the artist’s experience navigating SSRIs and NDRIs prescribed for anxiety, depression, executive dysfunction, and OCD, and the push and pull between feeling like a failure who can’t seem to do anything and feeling proud of yourself for managing to get through the day and keep pushing forward. These conflicting emotions are something that affect a plethora of people going through similar circumstances, and the way that Mel articulates it on the track and emotional resonance of her vocals makes for a really powerful message.
