The track follows the release of the excellent ‘A KISS FROM ME TO YOU’ from late last year
Melding her signature indie pop flair with more driven, indie rock sensibilities with rousing effect, latest Olivia Booth single ‘VICTIM’ is a track that sees the artist teaming up with Kian Mulenga (Drums) Josh Owen (Bass), and Ed Whittaker (Lead Guitar) to craft a sound that has a hard-hitting and brash appeal and packs a hefty punch.
Narratively, the new release explores a friendship that reveals itself to be a façade, with the other person stooping to games like manipulation and misrepresentation before retreating into their role of the titular ‘Victim’. The heavier and darker side of the artist’s sound pairs with this narrative expertly, and makes for a really liberating and cathartic listening experience that expels the emotional weight of the situation through the crashing instrumentation and Olivia’s commanding vocal performance.
“This song gives an insight into my soul.” Olivia says of the new single. “I have no idea how this keeps happening but in a world of almost perpetual victimhood it is sometimes difficult to see who exactly is the victim and who is the master manipulator. I hope the song lyrics resonate with people who have been in the situation where they realise why have been taken advantage of with false friendships and empowers them to take control and stand up for themselves!”
