The track follows the release of their 2024 LP I Bet Heaven Isn’t Real At All
Offering a vulnerable and emotionally charged take on modern emo, Aberdeen’s Palejoy are a band who’s raw appeal and introspective writing leave a lasting impression on you as a listener, unafraid to broach themes like depression, abuse and hardship through their cathartic and often explosive sound.
The band’s latest single ‘Max Payne Au Chocolat’ melds a humours title with an altogether more serious narrative in a similar fashion to how bands like Hot Mulligan and Modern Baseball have done so frequently in the past, delving even further into the aforementioned themes like depression and abuse. The track utilises their hard-hitting sound to tell a nuanced story of a relationship with somebody going through internal struggles, and wanting to be there for them and show you care while being affected and abused as a result. It is a subject that requires a lot of care and heart poured into it and that is exactly what the band do, and it makes for a really engrossing listen that feels important both thanks to its message and for their refreshingly modern and expansive take on the genre.
