For the last five years, Brooklyn’s PAULA T has been making songs in her bedroom, reluctant to share them with the outside world until now, where she has shared her endlessly upbeat and fun debut single ‘Canary’, the first taste of her distinctive and affable appeal.

The track is packed full of creativity and charm throughout, melding bedroom pop sensibilities with a punky cutting edge that makes for this really dynamic cocktail of sounds and styles. The quirky feel of the sound and the copious amounts of love and heart that have obviously gone into putting it together radiate from the release throughout, making a bittersweet tale about unrequited love feel as whimsical and carefree as anything you’re likely to hear anytime soon.

“‘Canary’ is about a demoralizing pattern I’ve found myself in: dating men afraid to be in love,” says Paula Tartell. “For me personally, the vulnerability of sharing my art is way more terrifying than falling in love will ever feel. The canary as a symbol is an invocation for people to keep sharing themselves despite the prospect of rejection.”
