“‘Canary’ is about a demoralizing pattern I’ve found myself in: dating men afraid to be in love,” says Paula Tartell. “For me personally, the vulnerability of sharing my art is way more terrifying than falling in love will ever feel. The canary as a symbol is an invocation for people to keep sharing themselves despite the prospect of rejection.”
