The track is the closer from their brand new EP Fly On The Wall
Along with the release of their absorbing new coming of age EP Fly On The Wall, London garage punk trio PLAY DEAD have released their frenetic new single ‘Damien Hurst Stole My Art’, just the latest in a string of releases that highlight their creative and expansive take on the genre.
The track has a wonky and nonsensical feel to it throughout, portraying a sense of madness and intensity through both the lyrics and the unpredictable and wild nature of the sound. Fortunately for PLAY DEAD, even at their most crazed and boundaryless, their sound feels fierce, exciting and immersive, packed full of a bite and energy that grips you and pulls you into their distinctive sonic world.
Reflecting on the wonky single, frontman Joe Blair admits ‘The lyrics make no sense. Reading back, I think I was inspired at the time by that whole Ed Sheeran lawsuit about him allegedly nicking someone’s song…it was in that vein I imagined this song being about some kind of crazed artist who was dead set on Damien Hirst nicking all of his ideas. Pretty stupid, but I like it.’
