Abel. – Comfortable

Harrowing, captivating and vital, Abel shares how she let herself get 'Comfortable' in a toxic relationship

Harrowing, captivating and vital, Abel shares how she let herself get ‘Comfortable’ in a toxic relationship

Dripping in both style and substance, ‘Comfortable’ is a track that encapsulates both the uniquely infectious sound and the thoughtful songwriting that Abel. possesses.

It’s glossy production toes the line between catchy house production and brooding, sinister dark pop, toeing the line between fun and caution. The track seems to master this juxtaposition, as beneath the huge chorus and pop sensibilities, there is its underlying warning of toxic people and relationships.

“Comfortable is a dark pop warning to people who tend to get complacent in toxic relationships.” Abel has said of the track. As the resident queen of staying in bad situations, I wrote a song about my most recent experience in one.”

Circling back on my style and substance comment, that is the best way to describe this track. Whereas so much music has all of the gloss and sheen in the world but nothing to say, and others have everything to say and no means to make it feel captivating or vital, Abel. and ‘Comfortable’ prove that they have both in spades, and the future looks bright for the young artist.
