Rising midlands artist Brandes continues to showcase his thoughtful and emotionally charged appeal on his sophomore single ‘Like a Dagger’
Brandes is the musical alias of author and former Labour MP Peter Bradley, an artist who’s musical style has a deeply resonating and impactful rawness that permeates every facet of his sound and style, making for these immersive narratives and stories that leave a lasting impression on you as a listener.
The artist’s sophomore single ‘Like a Dagger’ follows the release of the similarly powerful ‘Please Don’t Call’, and features similarly intimate and resonating lyrics, this time encompassing the painful ending of an ill-fated affair. Brandes’ stripped-back acoustic sound does a great job of wrenching every inch of emotion from the narrative and his painstakingly thoughtful vocal delivery, and the emotional honesty and vulnerability on display feels sure to resonate with listeners and draw parallels with their own experiences and regrets.
“Many of my songs are in some way autobiographical and this is one of them.” Peter says of the track. “Each verse captures a snapshot of the gradual disintegration of a relationship, not so much through a lack of love or commitment but because of life’s circumstances. I’ve tried to achieve a clarity and honesty about how it felt then and what it means now and my hope is that individual listeners will find a point of contact which helps them to engage with their own experiences and emotions.”
