Illinois electronic pop duo Forts showcase their unique and memorable sound on debut single ‘The Dogs’
‘The Dogs’ is the encouraging and aesthetically captivating debut single from electronic pop duo Mary Clare Clemons and Colton Jones, known collectively as Forts.
The debut single is the first glance that we have at their sound. Rich with melody, their brooding, gradually building sound is a hint that there are a lot of exciting things to come from the duo. While their sound clearly takes a lot of ques from expansive electo-pop artists such as CHVRCHES and grimes, there is enough unique appeal and personality here to make their sound stand out on its own.
“The song was originally something I had started producing and kind of pushed to the side.” Lyricist and vocals Mary Clare Clemons told us. “We had a bunch of other songs we were working on putting out first, as an EP, and this one wasn’t even really on the radar. But the song just resurfaced at the right time and our excitement about it fueled us to finish it and decide on it being our first release together. It’s super important to us to pursue an idea when it lights us up like that did; you never know when things can just flip like that.”
Failure and insecurity are things that are very prevalent in many peoples lives and something that we are all conscious of avoiding The track sees these emotions and the people that try to instil them into you as the titular dogs. This narrative along with the intense, yet melodic and catchy soundscape, results in a track that feels fresh and exciting. Keep a look out for the name Forts.
