Inky Nite unleash exceptional new alt-pop gem ‘The Canyon’ into the world
Set for worldwide release tomorrow, ‘The Canyon‘ is the latest adventure from husband and wife duo Inky Nite. Brighton based and certainly making waves with their glistening songwriting skills, the latest release fuses an elegant soundscape with vintage drum samples, a bright bass line and retro synths.
Speaking to us about the release, Inky Nite quote, “We wrote ‘The Canyon’ on an old acoustic during a particularly heavy week of doomscrolling. After spending days down the Twitter rabbit hole, reading bitter exchange after bitter exchange, we reflected on how it all came to this and the words poured out in response.
The song is about division and discontent in the UK, looking back at the surge of xenophobia and the migrant-bashing of politicians and newspapers (there were 300+ anti-migrant front pages from the Daily Express and Daily Mail in the five years before the EU referendum), as well as targeting online misinformation and social media filter bubbles. “Canyon” felt like the perfect title to sum up the wide divide – plus it’s the name of the guitar effects pedal we use on the recording too!
Like some of our favourite songs ever, we wanted to juxtapose lyrical bleakness with joyous pop hooks. We were listening to loads of classic New Wave and glossy 80s tunes at the time to cheer ourselves up – as you can probably tell!”
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Angus & Julia Stone, The xx and Oh Wonder, ‘The Canyon’ brings its own flavouring to the world. Surely able to win over your heart with their tasteful music, Inky Nite will definitely become your new favourite alt-pop duo.
