Out worldwide today, singer-songwriter Jessica Wilde’s latest single ‘Cruel’ is a pop gem
‘Cruel‘ is the third single taken from Jessica Wilde’s debut album, which is due out later this year. Telling the tale of a toxic relationship, there are themes of finding your identity, addiction and love within the forthcoming album.
Collaboration with producer Jay Nebula and Grammy award-winning producer Kris Houston (The Disciples, Little Mix) for the sensational release, ‘Cruel’ feels old-school yet refreshingly innovative.
Bathed in hazy instrumentation and an infectious hip-hop beat, the single radiates pop elements while swaying delicately towards R&B.
Speaking to us about the new release, Jessica Wilde shares, “‘Cruel’ Is about my first love with a girl and when I came out as bi. The relationship turned really toxic with lies and cheating, after ‘Jumping on a bus, to tell her I care’ and realising she wasn’t at home, as she said she was but with another girl, I finally got the courage to walk away.
That relationship was a wild, rollercoaster and took me to rock bottom but I’m thankful for it now cos I learnt a lot of lessons!'”
A mischievous number that comes across as sultry in places and unapologetic, ‘Cruel’ also showcases Jessica’s subtle London twang.
If the upcoming album is anything like this release, Jessica is in store for global recognition in a matter of short time.
