Wilma Nea’s mixes bedroom-pop with clarity in latest release ‘Period’
Wilma Ås aka Wilma Nea is usually seen singing backing vocals in the band Children of the Sun. Bringing you up to speed, the solo project of the songwriter began with the debut single ‘Kolgränd’ in early 2019 via artist run Ish A Record Label.
Back in April of this year, she dropped the soulful soundscape ‘That Rain’. Now back with her first release of May, ‘Period’ is a mixture of bedroom-pop and soulful. ‘Period’ has a sense of vulnerability in the track’s bones aching with innocence.
Wilma mentioned, ‘Period is a song about breaking up, but more importantly about feeling guilty over leaving someone and moving on. I’m not great at handling feelings of guilt, and I often find myself reflecting about how that affects my self-image.
When I wrote the song I had serious PMS, but I also just wanted my side of the story put into words before any other person got to say anything. I later realised that even though I hurt some people, no one other than myself was really blaming me for it.’
With upcoming EP ‘Issues’ just around the corner, ‘Period’ is detailing that the release is set to put Wilma Nea firmly on the music map. Influences of Clario and Fiona Apple clearly in the atmosphere, Wilma’s angelic music feels natural for the songwriter, and versatile.
