The track is from the artist’s highly-awaited upcoming EP It’s Not Me, It’s U
If you’ve been reading CLOUT for long, you’ll be fully aware that Rachel Bochner is one of our unheralded queens of alternative pop, with her immersive, often vulnerable and thought-provoking sound providing the artist with a litany of instant classics, whether upbeat anthems or intimate pieces of introspective storytelling.
With the release of Rachel’s highly anticipated 6-track EP, It’s Not Me, It’s U just around the corner on August 11th, the artist has released her latest single ‘Hard To Please’, one of the more emphatic additions to her arsenal, complete with gritty guitars and a driving rhythm section to hammer home a message about the struggles of being a woman in a time where they’re constantly told that they have to look and act a certain way. As a result, ‘Hard To Please’ showcases the artist at her most fiery and frustrated, using the track as a cathartic outlet for her feelings that feels as empowering as it does melodic and fun.
Rachel elaborates: “I started writing ‘Hard To Please’ at a time where the pressure of looking and being perceived a certain way felt consuming. As a woman – in general and in the music industry – I felt like I kept getting caught in the push and pull of knowing deep down that I don’t need to look a certain way or weigh a certain amount to be worthy of love and success, but not being able to fully let go of internalized, superficial beauty standards. This song was an outlet for me to voice that frustration and help me realize I deserve some grace.”
