The new release continues Rachel’s theme of pairing emotional lyrics with effortlessly catchy and memorable soundscapes.
If you read our articles a lot, something that you might (definitely) have noticed is that Rachel Bochner has developed into something of a favourite of ours, with her immersive and often emotive alternative pop bops on constant rotation.
Her latest single ‘If I’m Gunna Be Sad (I Might As Well Look Hot Doing It)’ continues to prove that her sound packs an emphatic punch while maintaining that deep, relatable edge. As the name of the track suggests, despite its sad nature it is adamant of its slick, sultry nature, providing us with both an effortlessly catchy piece of pop while eliciting feelings that listeners are sure to resonate with and feel seen. Feeling sad doesn’t have to dominate everything or consume you, and it is fine to feel how you do and still push yourself to make the most of whatever situations you find yourself in and thrive regardless.
Rachel elaborates on the sentiment behind the single: “When I showed up at Tiger’s studio the day we wrote this single, all I knew is that I wanted to make a song we could strut to. We started off writing something that embodied more of an IDGAF attitude, but after a while we realized it just didn’t feel super authentic. There was a moment when we were working on it when we realized, okay, maybe we do kind of give a f*ck… but if we’re going to be sad, we might as well look hot doing it.”
