Revered and celebrated as an artist and songwriter, New Zealand-born singer-songwriter Rita Mae is somebody who is capable of exploring a wide range of moods and themes through her sound, captivating and enthralling listeners every step of the way thanks to her mesmerising appeal and thoughtful charm.
The artist’s single ‘Big Star’ is from her new EP Kiss The Sky, and does a really great job of showcasing a softer and more intimate side to her sound in contrast to grittier cuts like ‘Kiss The Sky’ and gritty ‘My Bad’. Narratively, it is a tale of following your dreams, of the sacrifices you have to make and the things that could fall to the wayside as you make your journey. This makes for a really poignant and memorable package when paired with the intricate and stripped-back sound, and one that leaves an indelible mark on you as a listener as the artist so often does.
“This is definitely the most stripped down track on the project,” Rita says. “‘Big Star’ is set in the future in a scenario where the main character has given up everything to chase a dream. It acts like “some kind of warning to myself,”
