The Derry artist continues to showcase her emotional appeal on her fourth release of the year

With her affable, earnest writing and personable and relatable appeal, Irish artist ROE is somebody who has the effortless ability to immerse you within her sound and style and get you to feel the emotions and feelings that she articulates so well, something that we have continued to repeat and champion over and over again on this site.

The artist’s latest single ‘Swimming Pool’ is a fuzzier and altogether heavier manifestation of the artist’s sound, conveying the exasperation and anger that the artist has with the world and all of the horrible things happening around us now that we have no control over. The emotional edge of the sound and relevance of the vocals is perfectly summed up through this more impactful style and the increasingly anxious nature of her impassioned vocals, making for a resonating new release that leaves a real impression on you as a listener.

“The world is grim right now.” ROE says of the new single. “Maybe it always has been and it’s only now that I’m old enough to see it. But I can’t watch the news without it eating me alive anymore and when I don’t watch it then that’s ignorance. I wrote ‘Swimming Pool’ from a place of frustration and anger at the scary and horrible things I can’t control and the feeling that nothing I do will ever be the right call or be enough to make a difference. This song is an exaggeration of the dread that keeps growing as I get older and the sense of hopelessness that I just can’t shake. Cheery, right?”
