Following their memorable debut ‘Deal or No Deal’, Saloon Dion prove that they’re just getting started

With a sound that sits somewhat uncomfortably between contemporaries such as Courting and Do Nothing, Saloon Dion have well and truly thrown their hat into the ring as one of post-punk and the UK as a whole’s most exciting and unpredictable new acts.

Latest release ‘VHS’ is a masterful example of the unique appeal that the outfit have. There is a kind of sense of unease and edge here, as if things could explode and take a dramatic left turn at any given moment, but despite this, there is an inescapable sense of laid-back cool and a swagger about the track. There is a lot to take in here and the more that you listen and dive into the track the more immersive and weirdly exciting it becomes. We expect big things.

Taryn McDonnell (guitar / vocals) says of the song: “Lyrically, it was inspired by a scene in ‘Better Call Saul’ where Kim [Saul’s girlfriend] is flicking through a swanky spa/hotel brochure, raises her eyebrows and says something like, ‘You know what, Saul? I am luxurious yet casual’. The quote seemed like a fitting symbol for the absurdity of advertising and the methods used by a company to sell their product as an extension of ‘you’. The rest of the lyrics are the monologue of a character who is essentially a representation of all these corporations, their advertising methods and capitalism itself.”
