‘Deny’ is a moody and intense new lo-fi release from LA artist Sam and the Sea

The track comes ahead of an upcoming debut album from the project

It will be the first headline tour for the 21-year-old singer-songwriter.

Eschewing their more mellow and laid-back tendencies for a sound and style that feels much more urgent and energetic, Sam and the Sea showcase a more expansive side to their sound on new single ‘Deny’, melding its intimate and confessional nature with propulsive choruses to create a palpable tension that rises throughout.

The lo-fi aesthetic and unpredictable nature of the track gives it quite a murky and grungy feel at times that helps to foster this sense of tension as the track progresses, feeling like it is threatening to bubble over and descend into chaos at any moment while always demonstrating a level of restraint. The track’s unique appeal and charm and the intensity that sits just beneath the surface throughout make for a really memorable listening experience, and one that continues to build momentum ahead of the release of their full length debut album later this year.
