The track is the latest release from his acclaimed EP Who Do You Pray To?
An artist who has made a real name for himself with his emotive and deeply personal writing and sounds, Sam Tompkins is someone who have left an indelible mark on the UK music scene and is widely lauded as a unique and rare talent.
On his latest release ‘My Brother’, the artist continues to pen thoughtful verses about what is important and dear to him, this time shouting out his brother. The track is more or less exactly what you would expect from Sam at this point, which is a huge compliment to the unerring consistency and heart of the artist. Big hooks, memorable, poignant storytelling, and an abundance of emotion and respect as the artist lays out a thoughtful ode to his brother that feels as authentic and pure as anything you’re likely to hear this year.
“‘My Brother’ is really special to me. I love it so much. The origin of it is actually a sad but lovely story.” Sam says of the track. “When I was about 18, we lost our Nana and at the funeral we had to read the eulogy. I got about 6 words in before being in floods of tears, my brother read the rest and was so strong. Flash forward to last year when my Papa (Grandpa) passed away and I decided to do the eulogy. Sadly because of covid my brother couldn’t make it as he was working away in Canada. This time I got the whole way through it and I remember getting the text from my brother who watched it through a live stream that I smashed it and I felt so proud because the only way I was able to do it was knowing I was the exact age my brother had stepped up and been brave 5 years prior.”
