Kentucky alternative singer-songwriter and self-proclaimed “sad-boy songsmith” Sam Varga is an artist who’s forthright songwriting and earnest honesty have seen him resonate with countless listeners, with the artist earning a plethora of acclaim since emerging in early 2020.

The artist’s latest single ‘Never Better’ sees the artist exploring the ways in which we try to just brush off our pain and hardship when people ask us how we are out of some kind of morbid politeness, content to hide how we truly feel in order to maintain the peace. The impassioned tone of the vocals and  stripped-back, yet driving and anthemic nature of the sound do a great job of mirroring the struggle of wanting to reach out but not really wanting to impose, hiding our open wounds in plain sight while simultaneously covering them up. It makes for a stirring and compelling narrative that feels as relatable as it does bittersweet, with Sam’s charismatic allure holding everything together amongst the chaos in the way that it always does.

Sam Varga says, “‘Never Better’ is about laughing off the human experience. Which is brutal. Every day people ask us, “how are you?” And let’s be honest we lie 90% of the time. Because why would anyone ever be so bold or selfish to ask for help? It’s taking all that and making an anthemic sing along just to laugh it off for a bit.”
