The track follows the release of her excellent recent single ‘melt (under the blacklight)’
Having earned a tonne of acclaim on this site on beyond for her debut album Dream Girl, a collection of tracks that offered an uncompromising look at themes like femininity, equality, love and the contradictory rules and expectations of modern society, Samantha Margret has continued to demonstrate her distinctive appeal as of late with the release of her recent singles ‘melt (under the blacklight)’ and the brand new ‘You never learn’.
The latter of these singles is a potent and powerful exploration of self-doubt and love, and the way that they can often contradict each other and lead to moments of sabotage and destruction even when you don’t want it to. Samantha’s vocals and the uneasy and atmospheric nature of the sound do a really great job of capturing the chaos and inner turmoil that the narrator is going through and it makes for a listening experience that really leaves a lasting impression on you as she tries to face up to her fears and make things work. It makes for a compelling listen that many will relate to and find parallels with due to their own similar struggles.
Samantha explains, “Sometimes it can feel true that everything is about to end, especially when things are good. Almost like waiting for the other shoe to drop. But I hope everyone who loves me never learns any better.”
