The first taste of their anticipated upcoming debut album Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon, ‘All My Friends Are Depressed’ is a really great showcase of the painfully honest, emotionally charged nature of Soot Sprite and the vital, socially conscious core of their powerful sound.
The track delves into the state of the world right now and the increasingly glaring effects that it is having on the people around us, with worsening mental health and increasingly precarious living conditions becoming alarmingly common. There is a fierceness and a bite to their sound and the pained vocal delivery of Elise Cook that perfectly articulates this sense of struggle and strife, with their sound as a whole positioned as an enemy to all kinds of apathy and indifference to these kinds of issues.
‘All My Friends Are Depressed’ is “My observation of the mental health crisis we’re in, how widespread it feels and how sociopolitical factors are playing such a huge part. It’s also a reminder to myself that I need to stop distracting myself from my issues and try and change something or face things or nothing will happen and I’ll never shake off the episode.” explains songwriter Elise Cook.
