The artist reimagines her classic hit as part of its 30th anniversary celebration
Since the early 90s, Sophie B. Hawkins has been an iconic and celebrated singer-songwriter with a plethora of memorable releases to her name, one of them being her acclaimed 1994 sophomore album Whaler, a collection of tracks that spawned enduring hits like ‘Right Beside You’ and ‘As I Lay Me Down’. 30 years on she is releasing an anniversary celebration of the album that reimagines some of its tracks and breathes new life into them.
One of these is an acoustic version of the aforementioned ‘Right Beside You’, stripping it back and exposing the emotional core of a release that was originally praised for its dance-pop vibes and vibrancy. This gives the track a whole new lease of life, allowing the resonating nature of the words and heartfelt intimacy more room to breathe and make a lasting impact on you as a listener, her unmistakable voice leading the charge in fearless and engrossing fashion.
“I loved digging into the Whaler songs, from remembering the feelings of writing them at the piano to experiencing them in new ways on stage and raw in front of my audience,” Hawkins shares. “It’s been an incredibly creative journey, full of love and joy. I’m so happy to share this raw and emotional Whaler re-emerging with you.”
