At CLOUT, we lauded Sounds Like Lily for captivating debut release ‘Penny’, and hailed teenager Lily Mackay as an artist to look out for going forward thanks to her effortless neo-soul sound. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to hear more from the artist, with the second release ‘Daydreaming’ having followed shortly after.

‘Daydreaming’ continues to showcase the unique appeal of the artist and project, with the reflective lyrics and lush melodies making for a potent cocktail that feels alluring and irresistibly poised and engaging. Everything about Lily’s sound feels both familiar but with a distinctive sense of personality and charm that just provides it with that bit of a cutting edge and makes it stand out. It is very early days for the emerging artist, but her initial releases have highlighted a precocious talent that has a world of potential.

Lily explains: “Daydreaming is actually quite a light-hearted song that asks rhetorical questions, rather than going deep. It’s more about the process of reflecting rather than any answers. There are two sides to getting perspective – if we overthink it’s all about ‘me, myself and I’ and maybe we need another person to get us out of that? Is it better to just feel free to daydream and be ok with whatever life throws at you?”
