There seems to be a real groundswell of emphatic and hard-hitting post-punk in the UK right now, with swathes of young outfits with acerbic tunes and distinctive, cutting sounds making up a really exciting bubbling, scene right now. Soup! are an act that have emerged rapidly as of late with the potential to create a sound that feels really timeless and special.

The latest example of this is the restless new single ‘Only Time’, continuing to establish the outfit as one that Do Not Miss. Everything from their angular riffs, pulsating rhythms, pointed social commentary, and frontman Matthew Beswick’s cutting and domineering vocal delivery feels both like a love-letter to the scene of the past while also refreshingly modern and distinctive. Soup! are making modern punk for the punk fan, and their eclectic and direct sound looks likely to garner further attention and praise.

About the tune, Beswick divulges:

“The lyrics recollect memories of early childhood performances and the reluctance to perform. These reflections clash with society’s current need for attention, validation and attempts to gain both through self-promotion and performance.”
