The vibrant new track is the outfit’s first release as a full band.
With their first release in just under two years, North London’s Supermilk are back sounding refreshed and better than ever, having finally made the transition to full band early last year, after their first attempt was thwarted by the global Coronavirus pandemic back in 2020.
‘Jessica’s Army’ is the one of two new releases from the band alongside ‘Ribcage’, and does a really great job of showcasing the vast potential of Supermilk in this current incarnation. There is a real sense of rawness to the sound, with the band opting to perform live with minimal overdubbing and with certain instruments recorded straight to cassette, a stylistic choice that has provided their sound with a plethora of vibrancy and life. The track has a really earnest and catchy appeal to it throughout, channelling the energy of bands like Joyce Manor and PUP while having that kind of steely British charm and personality of bands like Martha and Fresh that always seems to provide that bit of distinctive flair in my opinion. The track is a stellar return from Supermilk and one that bodes well for the future of the revitalised project.
