On the new single ‘Double Life’, New York artist Syd Caldera continues to showcase the unique composure and atmosphere of her folk-tinged indie pop sound.
The track has a very deliberate feel and pacing to it, meticulously sauntering through a narrative of delusion and deception. ‘Double Life’ explores the ways that we can often confuse our perceptions of ourselves and our lives with the sobering reality, the protagonist guzzles a glass of whiskey and envisions herself having the time of her life in her mind, only to find she ultimately remains alone in a cold, dark, empty place. This makes for a really interesting dynamic within the narrative of the track and the gorgeously shot video, with scenes of parties and glamour juxtaposed with ones of isolation and solace. ‘Double Life’ is an endlessly intriguing track that has a lot to say, and can be enjoyed on a number of levels. Whether intrigued by the beguiling poise of the sound or the heartbreaking, double-edged narrative, there is a lot to love here and sink your teeth into.
