The outfit continue to expand upon their hard-edged shoegaze sound
Taking shoegazy 90s sounds and revamping them and bringing them to the 21st century, Talking Violet have carved out a really nice, unique niche for themselves and their sound.
Latest release ‘Slowdance’ is a wonderful example of this, led by lead singer Jill Goyeau’s captivating and often spellbinding vocal performance, the track tows the line between dreamy 90s sounds and contemporaries like Citizen and Basement in a masterful and completely seamless way. Talking Violet have crafted something that takes the harder edges of these sounds such the impactful riffs and alt-rock edge and just blended them into this more laid-back, euphoric sound. The outfit’s debut album Tell Your Friends You Love Them drops October 1st and we can’t wait to hear the rest of what the outfit have to offer.
“Slowdance is the ongoing effort of trying to be a comfort for someone else, and the eagerness to see them with peace of mind. It’s having your heart broken for someone else’s.” Jill says.
“When I understand and witness with my own eyes the emotional turmoil of someone I love, I often take on an internal need to do whatever I can in my power to lift them (something I know a huge majority of people do.) It’s a consuming wish that is desperate and urgent and feels like bare hands fishing through water trying to find anything in reach. Although no one expects this of anyone, it’s hard to turn that mission off. All you are yearning for is contentness for your loved one and to see them feel relief.”
