The band pull no punches on their authentic and impactful exploration of modern life
As a blog that is based in the West Midlands, Walsall’s The Assist are a band that we have seen the hype and the buzz building around in real time, establishing and expanding on a vibrant and powerful indie rock appeal that is packed full of life and a gritty sense of authenticity.
Their single ‘Disconnections’ explores the relatable feeling, especially in modern times, of feeling like you’re detaching from life itself, finding yourself in a battle to keep your head above water in a sea of instant gratification and having the world at your fingertips, more connected to the world than ever but seemingly further away than anything that feels tangible or real. The thoughtful and resonating feel of the sound is bittersweet and hits home in a really memorable way, and their punchy and impactful indie rock sound does a really great job of conveying the gut-punch of how this can feel in day to day life.
Speaking of the track, lead singer Mikey says“A never-ending demand for ‘bigger and better’ in all walks of life has ultimately led to the most rewarding of experiences being disregarded and undervalued. Our gauge as to what is and what is not important anymore seems out and there is a real lack of gratitude that is being shown towards life and what that naturally encompasses. That artificial dopamine hit that is so accessible at the end of our fingertips is proving to be the biggest threat to our understanding of worth as we become desensitised to daily highs that we now call mundane.”
