A hard-hitting and vibrant new single that is stacked full of chunky riffs and thoughtful writing, The Howlers‘ latest single ‘L.A. Morning’ is a reflection on the idea of American Dream from a distinctively British lens.
Even by The Howlers’ standards, the track is led by its guitars moreso than anything else and it feels flowing and free as a result, an irony when compared to the track’s subject matter and the false freedoms that many percieve the USA of offering. Themes like escapism, promises and ambition are explored throughout the track in really thoughtful and interesting fashion, while the grooves and riffs throughout ensure that the track feels immersive and captivating stylistically just the same.
“As kids we all grew up with the idea of the American Dream, a notion that has been dashed significantly in recent years by world events, but the romanticised idea of Hollywood is something that every child knows and grows up wanting,” says frontman Adam Young. “L.A. Morning is sort of the realisation of that. It was never meant to end up on the album, but it came together so naturally that we couldn’t ignore it. Those moments are rare and they’re what making music is all about.”
