Ahead of the release of his upcoming new album in August, Manitoba indie-folk veteran Micah Erenberg, also known as The Secret Beach has released a gorgeous taste of what’s to come in the form of the new single ’22’,a track that melds the artist’s soft and immersive sound with a thoughtful and nostalgic narrative about his hometown.

The track has unfolds like a bittersweet love song that explores the artist’s conflicted nature of his relationship with his hometown Winnipeg, tinging his sound with a sense of longing and regret as he takes a retrospective look back at his time spent as a younger man. The nuanced and charming tone of the artist’s sound lends a real sense of gravity to the poignant track, and the classic romantic tropes and feel of it create a really cinematic and engrossing aesthetic that continues to draw you in as it unfolds.

Erenberg calls the single, “A song about being young in a frozen, gentrifying shithole. Inspired by the infamous Simpsons’ ‘Midnight RX’ (season 16, episode 6), where a welcome to Winnipeg sign reads ‘NOW ENTERING WINNIPEG. WE WERE BORN HERE, WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE?'”
