Fledgling electro-pop talent Throatsugar has emerged on our radar as of late with the release of her debut single ‘Ascend’. The new project from multi-talented Irish musician Colleen Heavey does a stellar job of establishing her captivating sound and providing a glimpse of what is yet to come from the artist.

From the track’s lush synths, to the effects that are littered around to give it an often futuristic and modern sound, there is a real sense of cutting edge appeal that permeates ‘Ascend’, guided by the emerging artist’s effortlessly captivating vocals. There is a really slick balance between these distinctive quirks and the track’s incessantly catchy melodies and moments that keep the sound feeling like an accessible, electro-pop bop. A really encouraging debut release from an artist and a project that has the potential to do some really interesting things with this sound.

“Ascend started as a project at home and came to life when working in the studio with Mick Heffernan.” Colleen states “The track was inspired by the work of James Joyce, as well as the feeling of not wanting to wait around for things to happen anymore. I’m really excited to share it”
